Thief Adorns The Silvery Cover Of gamesTM 144

Shadows and Steam dominate games™144 as we finally get our hands on Eidos Montreal’s Thief reboot and experience the fear of Sega’s Alien: Isolation. Elsewhere we investigate the future for Valve’s Steam Machines, take GTA online and look back on the making of Elder Scrolls – all while reviewing the very latest releases.

Having successfully resurrected the mighty Deus Ex, Eidos Montreal has been working to bring back Thief, another classic first-person action game with just as much anticipation behind it. We take a peek at how the classic stealth game has evolved to suit its new open world and speak to the developers about their inspirations, hopes and fears ahead of the first next-gen release of 2014.

Similarly obscured has been the story behind Alien: Isolation, the first game to follow directly from the original Ridley Scott movie, and one that there’s been some nervousness over since the poorly-received Aliens: Colonial Marines. After playing through a full level and talking with Creative Assembly, we’re genuinely fearful for the final game – in a good way!
Making the transition from developing games to gaming machines, Valve are poised to unleash their attempt to bring PC gamers out of their basements and bedrooms and into the light of the living room thanks to a range of Steam consoles. We investigate the hardware, software and the deals Valve have in place and ask whether the end for the established order is nigh.
Elsewhere we discuss PlayStation Now, chat with Tim Schafer and Team Meat and maul through the glorious console failures of the past.
